Umm Mindows hasn't used Ms-Dos based code in ooh about 14 years. not since Windows 95
and Macs don't base their code on Unix anymore but OS/x also known as Tiger
well theres always a 3rd option LINUX
1. Windows ME was the last version to use MS-DOS (wasn't user accessible like in 98SE, but was there)
Windows XP and Vista are based on the NT line and Windows 7 uses a new kernel (the very heart of the operating system, it handles task switching, allocating memory and other very low level tasks)
2. Linux is not an option for anyone unless you cheap, skilled, and very willing to spend as much time fixing it as using it
3. OS X is Unix as it is the successor to Nextstep which is based on BSD and Mach, OS X 10,5 is fully UNIX 03 compliant when ran on Intel CPU's
