hi Allana,
okay you don't need to install any software for the sony camera so remove any software you installed for it, unless you want to control the zoom and pan with software too. Not sure if the vsmedia system still has camera control for customers in private these days. If they can confirm they still have that feature keep the sony serial port drivers on the system.
Also you never said which operating system you are using or which capture card you finally purchased

. That sort of information is needed for such help dear, but this is for any operating system here and the Dazzle DVD recorder so if any bit does not apply use the software that came with the video capture card on CD if it's not the Dazzle model.
Okay please follow these steps correctly.
1- Update windows to make sure it is running the latest updates.
http://www.update.microsoft.com/
2- update DirectX by visiting this site.
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=2DA43D38-DB71-4C1B-BC6A-9B6652CD92 A3&displaylang=en
Download the file there and run it to update DirectX.
3- Go to control panel and to the add/remove programs and remove any software related to your old camera if it is a built in webcam on the laptop you DO NOT need to do this part leave it as it is. If it is an external camera you have right now, unplug the camera from the computer and remove any software on the system related to it in the add/remove programs area.
4- Restart the pc after you have done the above.
5-Install the dazzle capture card drivers that come on the cd or better go to
http://cdn.pinnaclesys.com/SupportFiles/Hardware_Installer/readmeHW10.htm
and install the latest version they have at their website.
Dazzle* DVC100 (DVD Recorder) USB2 Windows XP 14.0.0.162 Windows Vista / Windows 7 (32bit) 14.0.0.162 (32 bit) Windows Vista / Windows 7 (64bit) 14.0.0.166 (64 bits)*
Dazzle* DVC101 (DVD Recorder) USB2 Windows XP 14.0.0.162 Windows Vista / Windows 7 (32bit) 14.0.0.162 (32 bit) Windows Vista / Windows 7 (64bit) 14.0.0.166 (64 bits)*
Make sure you find out which of the dazzle DVD recorders you have, there is 2 models , DVC 100 and DVC 101 and install the right one for your operating system. Check the box or the sticker on the underside of the dazzle which model it is.
6- Plug the Dazzle capture card into a free USB port on the laptop.
7- Restart pc when it stops detecting new hardware.
8- Connect the S-video cable to the Dazzle S-video connector and connect the other end of the cable to the back of the camera's S-video connector.
9- Power up the camera with the supplied power supply and switch it on, make sure to read the manual here if you need to tell the camera to use the S-video out on it, may need to press a button on the remote here (may not have to do anything and it does it automatically too)..
10- Check if there is an update to the performer application from the site or click update if there is a section on the performer application to do this (maybe under the help section).
11- Setup the performer application to use the Dazzle as the video device in the settings. Remember the video device will show up as the Dazzle video device NOT the Sony camera because in reality the camera is not connected to the computer as a device. Select the Dazzle as the video device and then try testing it on the preview window that you see yourself on when broadcasting. If it shows black video read the Dazzle manual how to set the dazzle to use S-video as the input and set it to PAL video this is what we use in the UK and what the Sony camera uses.
12. Also you can test the camera here too on the sites cam2cam tester. Make sure again in the Flash cam2cam site tester to select the correct camera device the Dazzle (by clicking the little webcam tab there and a drop down menu will show all video devices) and then you can click the camera picture in the webcam area to test the camera, you should see what the sony camera sees). Remember to have the camera on here. Also click allow flirt4free to access the camera on the privacy tab, then you will see on the large video test what the camera sees again.
