While I agree it's probably silly to think that the RIAA is gonna come down on this site because some model is playing copyrighted music, I think it's unfortunate that some people attribute the desire to protect music and such to "greed." Everyone is entitled to earn a buck from their work, and under copyright law, obligated to protect their copyrighted works.

Heck, the models here would probably feel the same way if videos of their work was given away or sold without their permission.

So ease up on the music industry for wanting to protect their works. I'm not sure how the rules for F4F with regards to music came about, but in the end it's not unfair for someone to be rewarded appropriately for quality work.

I'd pay real money if this rule was enforced in any real way. Worst thing is to be boppin' around the site, lookin' for someone fun to talk with, and to drop into a room where the model has some craptastic music blaring on her computer (and now, therefore, on mine) but her voice isn't on audio. (I assume F4F's audio works by just broadcasting whatever is going through the sound card.) I don't hang out here to listen to Eastern Moldovian influenced Ukrainian Hip Hop. I don't begrudge any model listening to music, of course, but I personally would rather you not send it out over the internet if your voice doesn't accompany it.

And for those that do have their audio on so we can hear you, I wanna hear YOU and see YOU, and not so much listen to your tunes. (Remember: all that audio takes bandwidth, too.) But I'm not asking that you turn off the music -- we all like music when we work and play. Just sayin' keep it in mind. Quote

Music row threat to websites

YouTube's row with PRS for Music, the body representing composers and publishers, could threaten the launch of other new online music services, digital media experts warned yesterday.

Google, which owns the online video site, has blocked all music videos to UK viewers after it failed to agree "economically sustainable" fees with PRS.

Giving evidence to MPs yesterday, Lord Carter, the communications minister, agreed with suggestions from other online music services that the dispute could foreshadow more rows over how to price content.

Ministers are planning to establish a rights agency to bring together holders of copyright and content distributors, such as internet service providers. "We clearly need some legislative backstop for the protection of rights," said Lord Carter. "In addition we need a mechanism for the distributors and rights owners to work out new business models for how rights get priced and accessed in a digital world."

He added the YouTube/PRS dispute demonstrated how difficult it was to create such business models.

BSkyB and MySpace are two media companies now in negotiations to launch new music services. Websites such as Last.fm, 7Digital and Spotify have bemoaned the difficulty in working with the music industry to launch new business models.

Martin Stiksel, co-founder of website Last.fm, said: "We are obviously watching the outcome of this discussion very closely. Online music is not a burgeoning industry any more, I would have thought it would become more transparent by now. But it is getting more expansive and prohibitive for new services to get into market. That is going to stifle innovation. The entry stakes have been massively raised all around." He said that although it was now harder for legal sites to compete with pirate ones, PRS was more progressive than other European Union agencies.

Paul Jones, partner at Harbottle & Lewis, the media law firm, said Google's move might be just a negotiating ploy, but added: "Services are not getting launched because people cannot agree rates."

Andrew Shaw, managing director for broadcast and online at PRS for Music, said it was more forward-looking than other rights agencies. "Sometimes licensees use complexity as an excuse for not wanting to do the right thing, which is returning royalties to the rights holders," he added.

Standard licensing terms charge for each time a music video is shown, irrespective of any advertising revenue. If Google feels its rates were now uneconomical, Mr Shaw said, "I can only expect that their revenues have not increased at the same rate" as its traffic had.

Record labels will lose out because of Google's action, he added, which means it might expect their support in pushing the PRS to licence videos on YouTube.

Google, and online services such as Hulu, is in negotiations with record labels about creating new websites.

Personally I would like it if the models didnt play any music. I usually leave a room if they do. There's a 99.98% chance I will not like what they're listening to, plus its usually a nasty surprised to join a room and have music blasted at you. Quote

Well I would wager to say that the models playing music have probably downloaded it illegally off of the internet anyway. Now not only would it be a bitch to get busted for "broadcasting" music for your "benefit" but also getting popped for not even purchasing what you are playing. Hey I have an idea... .get an I-pod and headphones... problem solved.

I do not want to hear music in a models room. I want to hear their voice, audio is for a model to promote her/his room with their voice (crap did i already say that before). Is this fact really lost on the models? Quote

I really can't be online without music, I'm sure not everyone will like what i listen everyday( especially times when I get obsessed with a song and have it on repeat ALL DAY!) This site does not promote downloading of music,has no download links of any kind to music,shows no lyrics or album art displays.When a model plays music in her room this site is not considered to be the original source of the audio file being played.This site is only the intermediate that the audio tracks get heard from.While some people may have downloaded the particular audio file they are playing in their rooms illegally some are playing the files from cds or audio they have purchased from sources such as itunes or napster making it legal for them to play it on their own audio system or computer and as it happens it gets heard through this medium (website),The record companies would have to start suing car stereo manufacturer's because it is a medium we use to play illegal music lol,you see the point?

There is no way that anyone can download an audio track being played in open chat here,VS cannot be considered the original source of the audio,only the person/studio playing the audio might get in trouble but honestly I don't think the record companies are going to go after studios in third world countries etc and build cases against them costing them millions of dollars in legal fees in the process to try and close down or fine studios in where the owners of said studios will vanish anyways and open up somewhere else.It would be a pointless endeavor.

Without going into greater detail this site is indemnified against what they cannot control.VS should be worried about better things than this.The law is the law but the law is also vague concerning this matter and can be fought easily enough.Yes people are getting busted for illegal music,yes if you are an idiot and have downloaded 400,000 songs for free yea you should probably pay,if you are running an illegal download site then yes you need to comply with the law.However in this medium (website) it's irrelevant.

VS will worry about this but not worry about the fact that their are children viewing pornography here because there is no age verification in place ie:when you visit here as a grey you don't need to electronically sign anything stating you are 18 years or older to view this site which is way out of compliance and if any parent support groups ever got a hold of this site they would tear this company down quicker than the RIAA would.
