i had the same problem Marilyn... another performer told me that the Sony D30 plus Dazzle is compatible with 32 bit systems.. but not the 64. That's why it is warping your image.. I could be wrong and there could be another way around it though. My desktop is a 64 bit, and my laptop is a 32 bit.. so I'm forced to use the Sony EVI only on the laptop.

I've run into a lighting issue with the Sony D30 though... my lights are too strong and it washes me out.. still trying to figure it out at the moment.

I have a Sony EVI D-30 cam.. I'm using a 64 bit laptop and I'm using a Dazzle.
The camera is hooked up fine, but the picture makes me look about 539 lbs.... Do I need to get a capture card of some sort? I have been given the run around with the Geek Squad and Sony.. So ya.. Any advice is immensely appreciated!!

Marilyn are you running a 64bit operating system on that computer be it windows xp 64bit , vista 64bit, windows 7 64bit ? From what I understand the performer application does not work on 64bit Microsoft Windows and can cause strange results. (You may need to call Vsmedia and confirm they have not updated the performer application to support 64bit now, not sure, but the past versions would not support 64bit windows devices like the capture cards and some models would get no video or some strange lines and not video that is right).

Also to add a 64bit computer can use a 32bit operating system too, you can check if it is 64bit by going into control panel and clicking system and read the general tab it will say there if it is 64bit. Just check there dear first to confirm it is 64bit or 32bit windows. I'm floating about in your room just to check how the video is running there so far im seeing it is a little slow and can freeze sometimes but the aspect ratio looks fine to me and you don't look squashed or pulled in anyway. The performer application may need some fine tuning to make it run better for your connection speed and maybe a little more lighting there. Will keep watching and will see what sort of speeds your room is giving out and will report back here.

BTW the Dazzle is a capture card , just a USB type

I'm using two tungsten lights, and they are pretty strong. It washes me out..

Lighting umbrella's may help with them tungsten lights or bouncing the light of a white wall or ceiling, that way you can point the lights at them to diffuse the light. The camera the EVI-D30 has according to the manual Auto White Balance but you can play with how the back lighting works and the image.

I have uploaded the Adobe PDF versions of the manual and brochure for you to check out how to set the camera features and what to press on the remote etc. To open these files you will need Acrobat Reader from Adobe you can get from here if you don't have it.

Also careful when you point the lights at walls they do get very warm and don't have them near anything that can catch fire easily :winkwink

, Like I said lighting umbrellas are designed for high power lights and will work best, just google "lighting umbrellas" and you will see what I mean.

Hailey Lynn what capture card are you using ? The capture cards also have in their drivers an area where you can set-up the white balance and colours, try checking there too. A good way to get the driver settings for the capture card to come up is to use something like skype, MSN or yahoo and click adjust the camera , sometimes these programs will make the drivers on capture cards show the settings panel for them. Try the performer application 1st and see if it shows it too. If not try one of the ones I mentioned or windows movie maker can do the same too.

And I'm using the Dazzle HD capture card. I spent $80 or $90 on it, so I would like to think I could mess with the settings a little bit! lol... I could have sworn I clicked around everywhere in the software that it came with.. but couldn't find any ways to adjust the light

Hailey Lynn don't bother with the lighting umbrellas if you have the diffuser box over each light, they work the same really, you may want to buy an inline dimmer for the lights to reduce their output (may make the lights go more red/orange tint then white) or smaller wattage bulbs for them, it's cheaper to buy lower power light bulbs then lighting dimmers btw, some of these lighting dimmers are very expensive and a cheap trick is to have many types of bulbs with different light power outputs. Also any luck on getting the dazzle HD to show the settings screen in the drivers ?.

Also if you decide to change the tungsten light bulbs, make sure the lights have cooled right down before handling them because you can damage a warm bulb and burn yourself (they get very hot the tungstens even if you turn them on for a few seconds, so careful dear).

I have not failed with the camera, I've simply found 104 ways that it does not work ;)
