Ok so I just bought this Sony camera on ebay and it comes with everything. Cables, remotes and power adapter. What else do I need to hook it up to my laptop to work on here? Do I need to download any kind of siftware? Another model told me I need a Video Capture Cable. Not sure what that is because I am computer retarded. HELP! :helpme

I was just made aware that this post is in the public forums.

The link you sent is the one - exactly the type of cable plus the software.

It ships from China. I had mine within one week. I paid $4 extra for the ship.

As I mention in the Models Forum, I will be glad to show you the hookup after you get your cable.

I will try to email how my connection looks as an attachment to our Email here.

The cable just attaches to the EVI cable and the other end into a side port.

If you need more info, just ask me in the models forum....

What are you trying to download if I may ask?

I did not download anything to get my EVI going.....

I just hooked up the cables and the remote does the rest.

The performer software will recognize the EVI.

So exactly are you trying to download and for what purpose?

I never said you didnt know what you were talking about. When I bought the cam I use now I had to download software before I used it to install into my computer. I thought you might have to do the same with this cam. When I get it in the mail, if I am having problems I will let you know. Thanks Tiff

you should also know that if your laptop is using windows vista 64bit edition you will have a large problem finding a video capture that works. only a couple of companies make the software(drivers) that vista64 will recognize.
One that i know of is Pinnacle Dazzle DVD Recorder. its $50 US new but the software in the box wont work with vista64 but they now have it available on the website under vista support.

I used the link you sent me Tiff and I bought the cable. I emailed the guy and he said it cannot be used with Vista! Arghhhhhh LOL . Does the Evi have a mic or do I need to buy a hook up for that? This is becoming such a headache and I havent even got the cam yet! LOL

I DO IT EVERY FREAKING TIME I AM ONLINE, SO I MUST BE DOING WHAT YOU WANT!

I knew that the person who sold you the cable would not have a clue.

So if you really want to know how to do this, I can show you.

Why won't you believe me about this?

It does not take a rocket scientist to do this.

But you ARE going to need help at first.

You are being told incorrect information at every turn.

I did not use a Pinnacle Dazzle, an Osprey or a Sony Dock.

The cable you bought will work. Please calm down, take a deep breath, and trust me.

I have done my best to help you.

I can help you with every detail you want, including photos of my cable hookup and trust me you are being handed incorrect information.

Most everything that runs under the 32 bit will run on the 64 as well.

If; you have a laptop, you probably do not have the 64 bit edition anyway. You need to check on that.

You are making this way more difficult than need be.

It does not matter - I knew the seller would not be able to help you.

But I can. Please stop stressing and let the cable arrive,

Then I can walk you step by step in the process.

Thanks Tiff, youre awesome for putting up with my neurotic ass LOL...When the cam and cable come in, I will email you (with my registered name) and let you know. Does the EVI come with audio or do I need to get a mic?

Yes, Michele you will need a microphone.

Khris and Dylon suggested a microphone that I bought from Newegg. It was $28 (that includes ship and taxes).

It is a Logitec Desktop microphone and is fantastic - worth every cent.

Hopefully the link will work.; II t is officially called :

Logitech 980186-0403 Silver USB Connector USB Desktop Microphone

As we go through the process of getting you up and running, there are other special things I suggest, but they nothing directly dealing with the EVI 30 and none too expensive.

If you can, can you go ahead and send a photo of the back of your EVI to me?

Once you get up and running, you are going to love it!

Mischlee (I hope I spelled your name correctly),

I will not be available from Friday until around July 5th.

I am taking a prolonged vacation and will not have frequent computer access.

Rest assured, we will get you going - perhaps the equipment will come by this Wednesday.

The cam will be here Tuesday and I am just waiting on the cable to come from China (3-4 bus days). My husband is pretty savvy when it comes to computer stuff so hopefully he can get it up and running for me. I will buy the mic you sent me the link for. If I am having any issues with connecting anything I will let you know. I hope the cable works with my Vista! *Praying* Have fun on your mini vacation!

I have a couple of awesome photos of my setup. However, I can't send them to you right now.

If your husband sees these photos, I think he will know exactly what to do.

You will receive a disk containing the software to install, but that is a no brainer.

That mike is awesome! I thank Dylon and Khris for that link!

I made a photo of the mike as it goes into my compuer and another that shows exactly what wire to put where.

Remember, there is no software to download, nothing. Just one disk contains what you need and then it is a matter of just one a couple of cables to stream to the capture cable that transmits the video to your computer.

You will be up and running soon and loving it!

I am doing my best to get my setup photos to you and to Loona as well....

Hi Mischelle,

For some reason, I did not receive an email from you.

Gosh, I just want to show you the photo of what connects to what.

And when you get the software for the cable, there is one easy step to make - try ignore the info that comes w/the cable.

It is pretty much useless for our needs.

Will explain more as we progress with this......I don't want you to stress or feel overwhelmed about something so easy a Caveman could do it.

You did order the microhone? All you do there is attach it to a free USB Port, I took another photo of the mike hooked up to the port. All I did was take the microphone out of the packaging, hook it up and voila! Sound - fantastic clear sound that can even be muted if you wish.

Then when you get the Captuture cables hooked up and attached to your USB Port and the mike hooked up to another USB port, the Performer Software will pick right up on it. You just log in and have fun!

I am more than willing to help any model who is new to the Sony EVI D 70 because it is so sweet!

So ignore anything suggesting a microphone or any audio regarding the audio on your EVI.
