Kaspersky internet security ROCKS!! I say that, because it is what I use, and it does NOT let me open anything that has a virus. I have had for two years now, and still not infected, even once. I highly recommend it to anyone who is on the net a lot, as it does help with all the viruses out there.

Yes this one of the good Anti-virus programs, I also use a registered version of AVG and find it reliable too, however as this particular virus comes in via IM, not sure if all Anti-Virus packages scan them. But yes please spread the word.

Hi everyone, just want to post a heads up. There is a virus sweeping through email and popular Instant Messenger programs.

The exact message the virus comes up with changes. I got a file sent via Yahoo wanting me to download a picture in a zip format (That is the warning sign) do not download or try to unzip the file. I know of a few members on this site as well that have gotten the virus.

Simple rule to follow: Do not open any attachments unless you are positive of the content. Pay attention to the file path too. Don't hesitate to contact the sender to verify the file as well.

I will update this thread with new information as I learn it.

he/she has done it in the form of a question asking for your comments because it attaches itself to the senders name so it looks as if it was really your friends that sent it because it aimed at 2 of the famous networking sites MS and FB

then gives the link begining with www.1tinypicturebox.com88 then the file title jpeg.zip

On no account open this it causes major damage i repeat DO NOT OPEN OR DOWNLOAD

if you have opened this link

to cure problem

reboot in safe mode run system restore back to a date before you got virus, then run antivirus and adware programme it should fix it , then you can reboot in normal mode then click anti virus prog for updates then rescan
it worked for me

Skull thanks for the additional information, the one instance of this virus I have seen, was similar except mine referenced photobucket instead of FB. It did contain the www.1tinypicturebox.xxx address and ended in pictxx.jpg.zip.

The code on this virus is adaptive and changes.

Just after posting I was contacted by a family member who received the virus in question. It did not come from me, but another friend. Here is a sample of what their code looked like:

Attached very deep and hid
I will later post information from my Computer Tech

Flie came in IM
It was able to open itself
Disabled even safe mode and turn off ALL ANtiviral programs

My Computer Tech submited this to AVG / Norton / etc so they can get protection for this

He is writing up instructions
I added more software and programs to defend
Amazing how more technical and damage this can cause

To deal with minor infections:

Go to the following websites and download the software.

www.malwarebytes.org - Download the free version
http://spybot-mirror.com/spybotsd162.exe - Download and install

Malwarebytes
Once the software has installed make sure it's up to date.
If when you try to update it it gives you an error then you'll need to do the following

Open Windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts

Open hosts with Notepad and locate 'malwarebytes' using the 'Find' feature.
Once located, delete the entry malwarebytes.org and save the file.
Then reload Malware and you 'should' be able to update the software.

Once updated, run a 'Full Scan' and remove any infections it finds.
It may take over an hour to scan but let it complete and remove ALL the infections it finds.
It may ask you to reboot the machine once done, make sure you do.

Spybot
Once installed it will open and ask you to 'Create a Registry Backup - click it.
It will then ask you to download updates - check for and download them all.
Spybot will need to reboot to install them, allow it to.
Once opened, click 'Immunize'. Spybot will now scan your internet settings to find ways it can help protect you.
Once its done click 'Immunize' in the top menu bar and you'll see the 'Unprotected' number count down to '0'.
Now that's complete click 'Search & Destroy' and 'Check for problems'
If it asks if you want to delete temporary files say 'Yes' and then let it scan.
Any Spyware entries will be listed.
Once its completed make sure they're all selected and click 'Fix Problems'
If it states it needs to reboot then say yes and Spybot will scan your computer again once you reboot.
Remove any infections it finds then.

Make sure your Anti-Virus is up to date and scanning on a regular basis.
Malwarebytes and Spybot should be run at least once a month minimum.

Click 'Download' under the Free column and let it install.
