While I personally don't believe for a split second that the peeks were taken away because of video security, I do believe that we are overlooking a most obvious reason. Perhaps once again, we are being quietly corralled like cattle toward something we did not want nor asked for.

Let us discuss how it used to be. The audio/video streams ran in parallel with the Flash applet that was the curtain. When a model would go into private the curtain would close and remain closed except for the 5 second peaks. This was possible because the video/audio streams never actually stopped; they were just covered by the curtain. A malicious hacker could in theory figure out how to disable the Flash applet and thus make every stream viewable. Sometimes that would even happen by accident when the Flash applet didn't get the signal to close and some people would be able to see or hear a private they weren't part of.

It looks like this has now changed. When a model goes into private, the audio/video stream is cut from everyone not in the private. I verified this by logging onto my router and watching a graph of the in/out traffic on my Internet connection. The minute the model goes into private, the bandwidth utilization drops to 0, which in turn means the stream is no longer being sent to me.

This is a valid and important security improvement. As usual this site fails miserably at messaging this fairly important improvement.

There was an announcement in the General Discussions forum by some anonymous person in VS (who thought that this only affected VIP members). Chinmusic asked there "what security improvements?" and the anonymous VS person never replied. Your post has done more to sell the latest change than VS themselves - but that shouldn't be right.

Although VS have made much more of a contribution to the forums this year than before, some of their announcements have "failed miserably" as you suggest. (Their announcement of a 6-fold increase in the price of some VODs as an "improvement" was one of the worst I have seen).

What now?

Earlier here I suggested some single frame screen captures (every 20 or 30 seconds) in place of the once-a-minute video peeks ...

KheldarXY, that was my assumption as well, and your router measurements seem to confirm it. Also, the transition from "in private" to free used to be instantaneous, but now there is a delay as the video stream is buffered when it restarts.

.... Another consideration is even more important. I'll use an example from the chatroom of Kenni, a Saint Petersburg model who left the site in July. His room nearly always had many visitors who in time became familiar with each other. The room was always full of good-spirited banter that sustained a party atmosphere. When Kenni was in private the conversation continued and the visitors remained. Each time the curtains opened there was amusing chatter about what Kenni was doing. Even if the private show lasted thirty minutes many visitors stayed put. Sometimes a visitor would disappear only to report a little later that he had joined the show for a few minutes. Flirt4Free might think the visitors would disperse to other rooms, but that's not necessarily the case. Some would leave the site altogether. Keeping the crowd together will be much more difficult under the new procedure. Kenni's room wasn't the only one I've known where visitors continued the party when a show was in progress, but his is a good example.

Madison, this is exactly what I fear will be lost unless Flirt comes up with a solution. Just cancelling this feature for whatever rightfull security reasons won�t be sufficient.

In my opinion, peeks should be available for 10 credits, and provide 30 seconds of video. No more than 1 peek per-room per 10 minutes. Peeks should only be allowed on shows that allow for voyeur or multi. The difference between a peek and just going voyeur/multi is that it can be done anonymously to see if one is interested in going voyeur/multi.

A person going pvt should have the option at an additional 10 cpm to make it so no one can go voyeur (ie- truly private). Right now the only way to do this is if the model is in a split pvt/multi rate (ex: 60/40); in that case voyeur isn't an option.

Implementing both would allow users who want truly private privates, and allow for peeks on shows where voyeur/multi is expected so users know if they want to buy the entire show.

Since most voyeurs are 10 cpm I would amend my recommendation to making peeks 5 credits. That sounds fairer. It should be less than voyeur rates, but limited in frequency.

Having been on this site since almost day one i think this change to remove the preview screen is horseshit! We are already burdened by so many other restrictions on this site (e.g. no free vod of own privates) I won't be surprised to see it go down the drain soon.

F4F is one of the most expensive sites around yet no perks for paying customers - beside the amazing girls.

The preview allows people to gauge if they should take a model private, i dont see how this is a secuity flaw as the pane is still there and isn't the reason why/how people capture videos of privates, its just a poor excuse to force people into having to go private.

Real voyeure are actually 1/3 of the private rate rounded up to multiple of 5. There are some 40 cpm private rooms that are 15 cpm voyeur, and the 70 cpm rooms are 25 cpm voyeur. But the majority are 60 cpm with 20 cpm voyeur as Phil states.

If you use super voyeur they are 10 cpm per stream if you have at least 2 streams open.

My initial reaction to the elimination of peeks was that it would be terrible. Now, I have spent the last several days experiencing for myself the results of this decision. Not only has it vastly decreased the enjoyment of using F4F for me, it has also far reduced the number of models that I visit in either Voyeur or Multi modes and thus, the revenue that both the models and the site receive. I tried to be very objective about this, jumping into Voyeur and Multi shows without a peek and have more times than not, exited immediately because nothing "of interest" was going on. It was like buying a pig in a poke, with apologies to the models for this metaphor. As a consequence, I have limited my shows to only those few models that I know, resulting in fewer visits to untried talent. I again beseech F4F to reverse their decision and reinstitute the peek function.
