Hey there Chris Fosgate
First of all assuming no one mentioned this to you WELCOME TO THE SITE
Here are a number of suggestions rather than pointers:-
[1] always just be yourself members can tell a phony when they see one.
[2] welcome all the viewers who enter your chat room in a very personal way. Might make them feel special and show an interest in you.
[3] treat the grey viewers as future members just as long as they don't make requests to see stuff or have you do something for them. You are the one in control over your chat room.
[4] if you don't have a twitter account then open one, but be sure to setup the security settings. Get your viewers to follow you there because if they do it shows that they are interested in you, and you can tweet them when you come online.
[5] with many members having the looks is a great thing, but it is your personality that will keep them in the room.
[6] avoid mentioning the tipping and going private and resort to some teasing. Members can get turned off if a model resorts to begging if you know what I mean.
[7] accept the fact that many viewers for some reason just never talk, but for the ones that do try to get to know them. Often with a lot of conversation going on in the room one of the silent viewers just might hit that Go Private Button.
[8] if a viewer gets out of hand give them a simple warning. Often it will encourage other members in the room to speak up and come to your defence.
[9] don't be shy about asking members to FAV you or to write a review. Members often like a lot of interaction going on.
I have probably missed several things, and hope you will get a few more posting. In any case I wish you all the best on the site.
You pretty much covered it all, gofish, at least the main points that will get Mr. Fosgate off to a good start. I might add the following:
- do your best to keep up with the chat, try not to single out any one particular member to the exclusion of everyone else. Of course, as the chat gets busier, it gets harder to keep up. So, be sure to apologize now and again, especially when the chat goes very quickly.
- on the other hand, don't be afraid to ask a member to take you into private, especially if you are talking about something interesting. An
alternative to this is asking them to either follow you on Twitter or send you a message through the site, so you can continue to exchange ideas.
- don't be afraid to set limits for yourself--what you'll do in open chat, what you'll do in party or group chat, what you'll do in private, what you'll never do. It's your body, and you have the right to say "yea" or "nay" to any requests. Be firm, and invite the member to go into private if they want to see something you won't do in open, party, or group chat. If they choose not to, apologize, smile, and move on. This isn't exactly the begging gofish was referring to; this is respecting the limits you've established for yourself as well as the limits set upon you by the management.
- always do your best to fulfill what you say you'll do. Never say you'll do something in private, and then not do it once you're in private. There will be times when it might be difficult to fulfill your "promise", but most members will be understanding as long as you put in a lot of effort and did your best.
- you are not a machine; do not try to be one. If you need time to rest and recover from a private show, tell anyone who asks you if you can do this or that the truth. They're all human and they're (mostly) all guys, they should know that there are limits. Some members will "pounce" the moment you return to open chat and drag you back into private, expecting you to be ready to go right away, and who will get angry that you can't "perform" so soon. These are probably new members. Be polite but firm, don't try to live up to their unrealistic expectations. You'll only end up hurting yourself.
- don't immediately discount the value of just a chatting private. Some members are more than happy to just spend time talking with you. If they're willing to wait until after you've completed a more energetic private show, it could be a good way to earn some credits while recovering, plus you're engaging and connecting with a member who might become a regular visitor, fan, and supporter.
- keep in mind that it is your room. You get to decide who goes or who stays. You can block out the grey guest users if they become too demanding (in some cases rude). You decide if you're okay with someone using all caps, or insist they turn off the caps-lock. You decide if a member is being too assertive, too abusive, or too aggressive.
- also keep in mind that you set the tone in your room, not the members. If something happens to upset you or frustrate you, take a break. It can be a short break, it can be a long break, but take a break.
Hope this is as helpful as gofish' suggestions.
