At one time all members could whisper but far to many resorted to just whispering in chat room. Thus the site limited whispering to just VIPs. However I am now under the impression that perhaps some members can whisper. Would like to try it out, alas have forgotten how it is done.
Think it used to be /model name ....followed by the message but it might have been model name ...followed by the message.
Does anyone out there know just how it is done?

VIPs are able to whisper, and I think members who are in a model's fan club can whisper, but only to the model (or models) to whose fan club (or clubs) the member belongs to. For example, if Member X is in Model A's fan club as well as Model B's fan club, but not in Model C's or D's, Member X can only whisper to Model A and B using the same format as VIPs, but will be unable to whisper to Models C or D (or any other)...unless, of course, the member is also a VIP.

Yes it is /model name to send a whisper to a model - VIP only or fan club member of that model. In the VIP forum there is a thread discussing that models are now once again able to whisper to members, so that is something you may see happening in the chat rooms.

To go further with the conversation...
I'm not a VIP nor a member of a fanclub but a model whispered to me the other day. Is it correct then, that I could not whisper back to him to reply? I didn't try to but ran across this thread and thought I'd ask.
If not, it would be nice if members could whisper back if a model initiated it first. However, that could be a difficult wish to fulfill.

Yes, the model whispered to you, and yes, you could not whisper back to him.

That seems to be rather a key point in the whispering debate :bulb

Seeing as the General Discussions forum is restricted to VIP-access only, and VIP members CAN whisper, it seems rather a moot point to mention not being able to whisper back to the model...

Fair point - although that forum can discuss any aspect of the site. Not just issues relating to VIP members.

VS removed whispering from non-VIP members two years ago to reduce the amount of whispering, which "can be very disruptive to the overall chat experience". The dust has thankfully settled on that controversial decision.

I don't think it helps that non-VIP members are now receiving whispers from the performers, and they cannot whisper back. I am hoping that VS might reconsider this latest decision to allow performers to whisper before there is renewed pressure to reintroduce whispering for non-VIP members. That affects everyone.

I don't like whispering, and I avoid rooms where whispering is spoiling the chat.

There's been a new update.

Now premium, VIPS, and fan club members can whisper and the models can also once again whisper. This time the models now have the option not to allow whispers from any of these categories, they could go fan club only, fan club and VIP, everyone, no one, etc.

This is making a little more sense now.

Performers are in control of their own rooms. That has always been the #1 rule here.

They have more control now.

They can even stop VIP members from whispering...

Whispering on this site has a long and interesting history. When whispering was first introduced it was possible for the members in a room to whisper to each other!

To whisper one speaks with soft, hushed sounds, using the breath, lips, etc, but with no vibration of the vocal cords

Nice models have more choices to run their rooms smoother and what works best for them . :twocents

A few weeks back models on the Female side told in their rooms about new whispering choices .

Some models simply turn off ALL for a break .
Others enjoy whispering and being whispered .

I find it amazing some can have several private conversations [whispering] and keep up chat in open too .

I find more rooms that too much whispering and little chat in open produces silent rooms .
Even worse sometimes - a model messes up the messages to the wrong members :orglaugh
