I watched with some trepidation as these things can sometimes be embarrassingly dire.
I thought the Opening ceremonies were fantastic, made be feel proud that the UK can host such an event and carry it off so well. It was a truly grand spectacle but personal with some poignant moments and some quintessentially British silliness thrown in (Loved "HRM" parachuting in with Bond and also Rowan Atkinson in Chariots of fire). It remembered our past and our great achievements (loved the NHS part) but also our present and future.
According to the Newspapers and the Social networks seems to have got generally a massive thumbs up from those in the UK, apart from some silly Politician who thought it was "multicultural crap" but then again I have no doubt he believes that in events such as this, only UK history before 1945 should be covered.
Interested to know what those outside of the UK made of it, some concerns that it was perhaps too insular for all watching to "get it".
I need to watch it again....
