I think you just have to accept that models come with all sorts of expectations and preconceptions, and either they overcome them and flourish, or they don't, and end discouraged and leaving.
Some are perfectly comfortable with being naked on cam, others are a lot less certain if they really want to be here. Some start on the site believing that all members want is for them to be completely naked and doing anything sexual. Others don't know what to expect and are so nervous that it takes days upon days of coaching and coaxing for them to let go of their inhibitions enough to just take off their shirts in open chat.
While it is true that the ones who are "letting it all hang out", as you put it, are more likely to see immediate success, it is also possible that they may shine brightly for a few weeks, then fade because they don't realize that there is more to the site than just stripping down and jerking off (though they may realize it eventually and adapt). And while it is true that the ones who "hold on to everything" may be overlooked, they are the ones who, if they stick it out, are more likely to have something to offer members in the long-term because they had to engage with members first before even getting undressed, and the connections made through actually "flirting" with the members will likely ensure longer patronage and support from the members.
